Cybercrime offenders to be hauled before Courts soon – Crime Chief

first_imgCrime Chief, Lyndon AlvesThe Guyana Police Force’s (GPF’s) Cyber Crime Unit is currently investigating a several cases which include illegal activities such as the hacking of financial accounts and transferring of monies into fake accounts, fake Facebook profiles involved in threats, and sharing of nude photographs without permission. This is according to Deputy Police Commissioner, Lyndon Alves, who bears the responsibility for law enforcement in the GPF.In an exclusive interview with the Guyana Times the crime chief explained that at present the Cyber Crime Unit is coming close to closing some cases where persons’ private nude photographs were disseminated via whatsapp, Facebook, and other forms of internet communication channels.“Doing that is an offense and if someone sends you a nude picture, and you decide to share with others and they share too, all of you will be charged simply because that is an offense. You are not supposed to be sharing any such private photo that may have been sent to you, once you do that you will be charged, and if the persons you send to do the same, they will also face the consequences. This Unit is looking at all cases involving internet related crimes or offences,” the Deputy Commissioner explained. He alluded to the fact, that quite soon, the Unit is expected to be closing some of these cases and persons will have to be hauled before the Courts to answer for their crimes.According to Alves, another case which the Cyber Crime Unit is currently investigating is that of the cyberattack on the Guyana Power and Light’s (GPL’s) computerised systems that occurred in February last. The attack on the corporation took place on February 6, 2019 about 04:21hrs where the perpetrator(s) of this act requested a ransom of bitcoins (digital money) to remove all encryptions from within the network. In a release sent by the company shortly after the attack, the GPL said it has not heeded to, and will not heed to, any such ransom.“It is therefore fitting to advise and encourage all local companies with computerized systems to review their existing cyber security systems and disaster recovery plans as well,” the statement urged.Cybercrime is a subset of CyberSecurity, they differ from traditional security and criminal activities, and require completely different responses and investigations. BROLLY AND CAHILL IN HEATED ROW OVER PUSH ON DONEGAL TEAM DOCTOR

first_imgA push on Donegal team doctor Kevin Moran by Armagh’s Aidan Findon resulted in a heated radio debate between Joe Brolly and Des Cahill.Dr Kevin Moran – pushed to the ground by Armagh player. The encounter after nine minutes in today’s All-Ireland quarter-final with a the row lasting nearly two minutes.Armagh’s Aaron Findon received a yellow card after the incident during which Dr Moran fell to the ground. The row occurred on popular RTE Radio One programme ‘Saturday Sport’, which was hosted by Cahill and Joanne Cantwell.Former Mayo GAA player Kevin McStay was also in the studio. While talking about the incident, Brolly told Cahill he believed he was “overblowing” the incident.“Doctors do not get thrown to the ground,” Cahill told Brolly. Brolly mentioned a recent boxing match RTE had covered – although he didn’t specify which match it was.But the RTE host said it had nothing to do with boxing and asked Brolly if he was saying it was okay for a doctor to get thrown onto the ground.“I remember one of the most brutal boxing fights I had ever seen in my life and you guys were lionising it and saying it was magnificent… that it was an example of tremendous courage.“Both boxers knocked each other out,” Brolly said.Des interjected saying it had nothing to do with the incident during the match. “That was boxing. That was boxing. This is a team sport when a doctor came on…”Brolly then replied: “I just think you are making too much of it Des… You know this is not… this is not a kiddie story.“I’m not allowing you trivialising it… that’s all I’m saying,” Cahill said.McStay then said he didn’t agree with Brolly’s viewpoint. “You have to a travel to a lot of other sports to see the medical staff being thrown to the floor,” McStay, who is a columnist with the Herald, said.“We’re an amateur sport. I can’t agree with you Joe.”Brolly then said: “If you put your head in the lion’s mouth, you shouldn’t sort of waggle it about you know.“I think you’re just overblowing the whole thing … it’s not the end of the world,” Brolly concluded.“I’d say in 30 years and more, in playing it and watching it, I’ve never seen a doctor tending another player, club or county level, being pulled out and pushed to the floor,” McStay added.BROLLY AND CAHILL IN HEATED ROW OVER PUSH ON DONEGAL TEAM DOCTOR was last modified: August 9th, 2014 by StephenShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)Tags:Croke ParkDes CahillDR KEVIN MORAMJOE BROLLYpushRTElast_img read more

DONEGAL TD CLAIMS WE ARE “ON CUSP OF NEW GOLDEN ERA OF TOURISM” AS HOTEL CLOSES!

first_imgWest Donegal TD Dinny McGinley has claimed that tourism is on the “cusp of a new golden era” – just hours after a leading hotel closed its doors. The Seaview Hotel in Gaoth Dobhair which closed last night.Donegal Daily revealed last night how the Seaview Hotel in Gaoth Dobhair closed yesterday with the loss of 35 jobs.Owner Jimmy Boyle told us how Government inaction in the area had partially led to the hotel’s closure. But local TD Dinny McGinley maintained today that tourism in Donegal and Ireland is about to be reborn. His claim comes following the devastation of the Gaoth Dobhair area including the closure of the Ostan Hotel, the loss of Largo Foods as well as the closure of two local grocery shops in Bunbeg.Deputy McGinley said the announcement of the hotel clsoure is a terrible blow, not alone to the Boyle family, the over 30 workers losing their jobs, but also to the local parish.Dinny McGinley TD“For many years the Seaview was an iconic facility in the area. It was looked upon as a centre of social entertainment for young people, not alone in the Parish, but in West Donegal. “It also provided excellent facilities for events in the area and attracted many tourists down through the years. It has made a major contribution to the golden era of tourism in the 60’s, 70’s and even later.“What makes last night’ s announcement even sadder is that we are on the cusp of a new golden era of tourism in Donegal.“As someone who has been using the facilities of the Seaview for family and public events down through the years, I do hope that this is not the end of an era and that the Boyle family will continue to be involved in the business and catering life of the Parish for many years to come.”DONEGAL TD CLAIMS WE ARE “ON CUSP OF NEW GOLDEN ERA OF TOURISM” AS HOTEL CLOSES! was last modified: January 7th, 2015 by StephenShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window) Tags:Dinny McGinleydonegalGOATH DOBHAIRSeaview Hotellast_img read more

Inconsistent Villa host sturbbon Police

first_img Tags: Juma Balinyapolice fcSC VillaStarTimes Uganda Premeir Leaguetop Villa drew 1-1 at Bul in their last game (file photo)StarTimes Uganda Premier League SC Villa vs Police FCMandela National Stadium, NambooleWednesday, 27-02-2019 @4pmNAMBOOLE – Ever since the arrival of Douglas Bamweyana, Villa have looked a better side, one that is very much capable of picking results. However, despite looking good in all departments, they have been inconsistent in most cases. After winning twice in succession for the first time this season, defeating Vipers and Paidha Black Angels, the Jogoos went on to draw 1-1 at Bul. Yes it is not a result that is so alarming but one that proves how incapable Bamweyana’s side are in terms of winning on a regular basis. They may have started fending off relegation fears already but finishing as high up the table as possible is what everyone at Villa Park craves for.On Wednesday afternoon, they have a chance to win a third game in four when they come up against Police. The Cops have been a revelation of sorts this campaign as they keep on picking unimaginable results here and there.Last week, after a disastrous first half at home to KCCA, they had Juma Balinya to thank as the league top scorer scored a late goal to ensure the gam3 ends 1-1.The point off KCCA was Police’s fifth against the three VEK (Villa, Express and KCCA) sides, the traditional heavyweights of Uganda and it proves Abdallah Mubiru’s side will not be no push over at Namboole.Team News:Villa have Mandela Ashraf, Harishe Asuman and Wasswa Yusuf back from injury however the game comes too early for Semujju Joseph who has just returned to training. The Jogoos will also miss the services of young star, Ndahiro Derrick due to Yellow card accumulation. Muhindo Ronald is expected to return to the team since appearing in URA FC game a couple of weeks ago.Police have no major absentees for this one. They will look at Balinya, Hassan Kalega, Ashraf Mugume, Johnson Odong, Ruben Kimera and Simon Mbaziira for inspiration if they are to pick all three points.Match Facts:This will be the 18th meeting between Police and SC Villa since November 2010.In the 17 meetings prior to this one, Villa have won 6, Police three with the other 8 all ending in draws.Going into Tuesday’s game, Police have not defeated Villa in any of their last 8 attempts, losing twice and drawing the other six.Last season’s reverse fixture saw Villa win 1-0 in Masaka before the two sides shared spoils at Lugogo early this season despite the Jogoos playing most of the game with 10 men.Villa go into the game unbeaten in their last four games (W2 D2). Their last defeat was the 1-0 loss to URA at the start of the second round. At home, they have lost only one of their last 5 League games (W2 D2). The loss was in the 1-0 defeat to Bul on January 5th.For Police, they head into the game having won only two of their last 7 League games (D2 L3).On the road, the Cops have been in poor form lately, winning only one of their last 6 games (D1 L4).The other games on Wednesday:-Bright Stars vs Tooro United-Nyamityobora FC vs Bul FCComments last_img read more

The Amazing Pigeon Techno-Beak

first_imgHow do homing pigeons find home?  Scientists at University of Frankfurt may have found the answer: magnetic minerals in their beaks.  A press release from Springer Publications describes the amazing pigeon techno-beak:In histological and physicochemical examinations in collaboration with HASYLAB, the synchrotron laboratories based in Hamburg, Germany, iron-containing subcellular particles of maghemite and magnetite were found in sensory dendrites of the skin lining the upper beak of homing pigeons.  This research project found that these dendrites are arranged in a complex three-dimensional pattern with different spatial orientation designed to analyze the three components of the magnetic field vector separately.  They react to the Earth’s external magnetic field in a very sensitive and specific manner, thus acting as a three-axis magnetometer.    The study suggests that the birds sense the magnetic field independent of their motion and posture and thus can identify their geographical position. This mechanism is probably not unique to homing pigeons, the article states.  It might be found in all birds – and even in other animals that excel at navigation.  Indeed, “many animals display behavior that is modified or controlled by the Earth’s magnetic field.”  These include animals as diverse as sea turtles, lobsters and butterflies.    A spin-off of this discovery is the human desire to imitate it.  Will similar nanotechnology someday help doctors target drugs in the body?  Will it spur inventions into new data storage devices?  Will it reduce the size of magnetometers on aircraft and spacecraft?  Too early to say.  First, inventors must find ways to synthesize these sensors.  One of the scientists at the University of Frankfurt commented, “Even though birds have been producing these particles for millions of years, the main problem for scientists who want to find benefits from their use will be the technical production of these particles.”Millions of years would not help pigeons develop techno-beaks.  Aside from that bit of Darwinian flatulence, this is an astonishing announcement.  It goes to show that no skill in nature just happens; there must be structure adequate for each function.  Homing pigeons have been known for a long time.  People have marveled at pigeon navigational abilities since antiquity, but only now do we begin to understand what machinery is involved.  The iron-containing structure in the beak is just one aspect of a system.  As with eyes and ears, a brain must be adequate to process the continuous information flow and make quick decisions.  Would that Charles Darwin, that famous pigeon-breeder, had known about this.  Things might have been different in 1859.(Visited 15 times, 1 visits today)FacebookTwitterPinterestSave分享0last_img read more
