GoodBulk said that Capesize rates in July and August were the strongest so far this year with July averaging USD 23,952 per day and August averaging USD 25,209 per day, 195% and 57% above the same months of last year, respectively. As disclosed, September rates moved lower mainly due to softening coal imports into China as the nation had ample stocks to feed its power stations. Capesize rates averaged USD 17,177 per day, 13% lower than the same month last year. The market started to improve slowly in October with rates averaging USD 18,602 per day.The strong market pushed the company’s revenues and net other operating income (expenses) to USD 56.2 million, and net income of USD 14.5 million in the third quarter of 2018, against USD 0.7 million profit posted last year. For the nine months GoodBulk reported a net income of USD 27.2 million, a major boost from USD 1.2 million booked in the same period in 2017.“Management remains optimistic that supply and demand fundamentals in the Capesize market will remain strong supported by historically low fleet growth and growth in tonne miles,” the company pointed out.Commenting on the installation of ballast water treatment systems (BWTS), the dry bulker owner said this would be evaluated on a case by case basis depending upon the age of each ship and the market conditions at the time of the required installation. Currently, no BWTS investments are planned before 2020.Following delivery of the two Capesize vessels in October 2018, GoodBulk controls a fleet of twenty-five Capesize, one Panamax, and two Supramax dry bulk vessels with an average age of 9.5 years. Supramax vessel MV Aquapride was sold in July and it is expected to be delivered to its new owner in November 2018.

17 September 2010United Nations peacekeepers in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) are building detention facilities in the country’s troubled east to ensure that female detainees are safely and securely housed while they await trial. The new facilities, which will house about 50 inmates and be located near the public prosecutor’s office in the Ituri district, are being constructed by the Guatemalan Special Forces contingent in the UN peacekeeping mission to the DRC, known as MONUSCO.Currently female detainees in Ituri, the scene of continued violence and tensions in recent years, often have to share space with male detainees. The project should be completed within 12 weeks, when it will be handed over to the local judicial administration. Funding for the “quick impact project” was approved by MONUSCO after a request for construction from public prosecutors in Ituri.“This project will have an important impact in enhancing the State authority and improving the respect to the rule of law in Ituri,” said Erivan Santiago, head of MONUSCO’s Rule of Law section in the town of Bunia. “This initiative reflects the commitment of MONUSCO to accomplish its mandate.”In related news, 60 journalists and media managers from North and South Kivu provinces recently took part in a workshop aimed at improving their capacities to cover sexual violence trials. The training, held from 30 August to 10 September in Bukavu and Goma, was organized by the UN Joint Human Rights Office (UNJHRO) with a Canadian non-governmental organization (NGO).In the DRC, particularly in North and South Kivu, armed conflict has often involved sexual violence. Despite the adoption in 2006 of laws severely punishing all sexual violence, perpetrators are not always punished and impunity persists. This training, sponsored by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), was aimed at tackling such impunity.

New York Cosmos vice-president and chairman of the National Premier Soccer League Joe Barone, asked for the “FIFA System” to be put in use in the United StatesFor MLS Board of Governors founding member Kevin Payne the Major League Soccer (MLS) doesn’t need promotion and relegation.According to him the system is old and doesn’t fit United States sports. But for Joe Barone, chairman of the amateur National Premier Soccer League and vice-president of the New York Cosmos, there is a legitimate need for this system.Christian Pulisic praises Frank Lampard impact at Chelsea Andrew Smyth – September 5, 2019 Christian Pulisic opened up on just how much “great guy” Frank Lampard has helped him out since he joined Chelsea from Borussia Dortmund.“When you talk about Division 2, Division 2, and Division 3, everywhere else in the world that entails moving up and down,” Barone told Sports Business.“In the US, that doesn’t exist and that’s a major issue. The teams and players know that whatever happens, they will be back next year.”“To improve quality teams and players need to be in a stressful situation,” he added. He argued that the current system is deterring potential investment in the sport, as many millionaires would “love to invest in sports, particularly soccer”.
Mark Hughes believes Southampton’s fate was sealed in the opening period of their match against Manchester City after they lost 6-1 at Etihad Stadium on Sunday afternoon.Manchester City already had a three-goal lead after just 18 minutes, courtesy of a Wesley Hoedt own goal and goals from Sergio Aguero and David Silva.Despite reducing the deficit through Danny Ings’ penalty, the visitors never recovered.“We’re disappointed with the opening period as that’s when the game was lost,” Hughes told Southampton website. We were never able to get a foothold in the game and didn’t have an opportunity to clear our heads.“We were a little bit, I’ll say the word milky, in terms of our defensive work and there’s times where you have got to be really aggressive at both ends.Premier League Betting: Match-day 5 Stuart Heath – September 14, 2019 Going into the Premier League’s match-day five with a gap already beginning to form at the top of the league. Galaxy Fold vs. Huawei Mate X: Battle of the foldable phones Every foldable phone coming your way Foldable phones are so tantalizingly close Comments The video also provides a glimpse of gesture controls using Samsung’s One UI interface, and a large notched area that houses some of the Galaxy Fold’s cameras. You might notice, too, that the Fold’s bezels look particularly wide when it’s closed in phone mode. You can hear the two sides click into place when it snaps shut, suggesting a magnetized closure mechanism. This YouTube clip shows the Galaxy Fold’s 4.6-inch external display. Unfolded into tablet mode, that turns into a 7.3-inch screen. The Fold sports no fewer than six cameras, two batteries and a hefty price tag of $1,980 (roughly £1,500 or AU$2,800). It’s set to be released in the US on April 26.CNET did not independently verify the authenticity of the video, which leads viewers through the boot-up process on AT&T’s network, and flips the phone over to show a bar code sticker on the back. 60 Photos Samsung 3:30 Share your voice In February Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Fold, its first foldable phone. It was exciting, but the Fold was only put on display — and not in anyone’s hands. A video on YouTube tech vlog phoneoftime uploaded Tuesday appears to show the foldable device in the hands of a real live person, demonstrating how it transforms from tablet to phone and back again. One thing you’ll notice, other than the background audio of what sounds like a daytime soap opera (“You knew. You knew and you never said anything!”) is a visible crease running down the middle of the device when it’s in tablet mode. The crease is quickly becoming a flashpoint for foldable phone design. Critics point to the crease in plastic (polymer) screens used on foldable phone as a weakness that looks unattractive and could disrupt a seamless experience when playing games or using apps in the full-screen (unfolded) mode. A crease also suggests to detractors future wear and tear on the screen. Photos of the Week August 30, 2019 News • Photos of the Week Facebook Twitter Pinterest LinkedIn ReddIt Email Facebook Twitter Pinterest LinkedIn ReddIt Email,(RNS) — A bipartisan group of lawmakers has sent a letter to Trump administration officials calling on them not to reduce the refugee cap to zero, as they have reportedly discussed, arguing that doing so could threaten the country’s “legacy as a protector of human rights” and call into question a promise to assist persecuted religious minorities abroad. The senators, including Democrat Patrick Leahy of Vermont and Republicans Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, Marco Rubio of Florida and Susan Collins of Maine, said such a move would contradict the country’s historic dedication to refugees, whom they describe as “part of a diverse American culture and flourishing economy.”“At a time when we are facing the ‘highest levels of displacement on record,’ according to the United Nations Refugee Agency, we urge you to increase the refugee resettlement cap and to admit as many refugees as possible within that cap,” the letter reads in part. “America has a responsibility to promote compassion and democracy around the world through assistance to vulnerable and displaced people.”The letter’s authors pointed out that a policy of eliminating refugee admissions conflicted with the administration’s pledge to aid persecuted religious minorities, whose cause, the senators noted, was championed last month at the Ministerial to Advance Religious Freedom, convened by the U.S. State Department.“We were especially surprised to hear reports of the elimination or severe decrease in proposed refugee resettlement on the heels of the State Department’s Second Ministerial for International Religious Freedom, where survivors of severe persecution came to the United States to share testimonies of unimaginable human rights atrocities,” the letter reads.“America has an obvious interest in demonstrating and promoting freedom of religion to the world, including accepting refugees who flee persecution because of their faith. In fact, the administration acknowledges the partnership between refugee admission and protection of inherent human rights in both the 2018 Report on International Religious Freedom and the 2018 Country Reports on Human Rights Practices.”Faith concerns were at the center of the letter’s argument in other ways. The letter was initially crafted by Sens. Chris Coons, D-Del., and James Lankford, R-Okla., a bipartisan duo that co-chairs both the weekly Senate Prayer Breakfast and the annual National Prayer Breakfast.Sen. James Lankford, R-Okla., from left, President Trump and Sen. Chris Coons, D-Del., pray during the National Prayer Breakfast on Feb. 7, 2019, in Washington. (AP Photo/ Evan Vucci)In an interview with Religion News Service, Coons explained his own concern for refugees and immigrants by invoking both his life experience and his faith.“My own home church when I was a kid welcomed a refugee family from Vietnam,” he said. “This particular family had a remarkable and harrowing story … but my home church welcomed them. My mom and some of her closest friends were very active in helping them get an apartment, get clothes, get the kids in school, learn English. They came to worship with us regularly.”Coons added: “To go from literally destitute refugees from Vietnam to people who are fully American and successful and engaged in one generation is a remarkable thing. But it’s not unusual. It has happened hundreds of thousands of times all over the country.”The letter was also signed by Sens. John Thune, R-S.D., Tina Smith, D-Minn., Mike Rounds, R-S.D., Thomas R. Carper, D-Del., Rob Portman, R-Ohio, Kristen Gillibrand, D-N.Y., Jeanne Shaheen, D-N.H., Roy Blunt, R-Mo., Tammy Baldwin, D-Wisc., Chris Van Hollen, D-Md., Cory Gardner, R-Colo., and Ed Markey, D-Mass.Faith groups have been vocal opponents of the Trump administration’s reductions of the nation’s refugee cap. Shortly after Trump took office, he lowered the number of refugees allowed into the United States from 110,000 to 45,000. The president later reduced the cap to 30,000 people, the lowest figure since the refugee resettlement program started in the 1980s.The reductions have taken a toll on the nine groups that partner with the federal government to resettle refugees, six of which are faith-based. Most have faced significant office closures and staff reductions under the Trump administration as a result of the changes — including laying off employees who are themselves current or former refugees.Others have expressed concerns about whether Trump has broken his pledge to assist persecuted religious minorities abroad. President Trump told the Christian Broadcast Network in 2017 that he would make helping persecuted Christians a priority of his administration, but admissions of Christian refugees have only reduced under his presidency. RIM is currently holding its 2011 keynote at the BlackBerry World Conference in Orlando, Florida. One of the announcements that will come as no surprise to anyone is news of a popular game coming to the PlayBook tablet platform. In case you hadn’t guessed already, that game is Angry Birds which is already available or coming soon for just about every platform there is.Rovio has already left its mark on the App Store by topping the charts with the title. Since then we’ve seen releases across multiple platforms as well as Angry Birds Seasons, Angry Birds Rio, and Angry Birds Magic. All versions do well and remain popular meaning Rovio will continue to milk the IP for as long as possible. As to what PlayBook owners will be getting, we expect a straight port of the original game, but all will become clear once Rovio has the title finished. As for when it will land, all RIM said during the keynote was “soon”.While those of you sick of hearing about Angry Birds may be questioning a release on yet another platform, I’m sure Rovio and RIM just see the sales potential for a very popular game and another set of users (business gamers?) who may not have been exposed to it before.via Reuters and @saschasegan
Kolkata: Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee will preside over a crucial meeting with all her party MLAs and leaders at Netaji Indoor Stadium in Kolkata on Monday. A set of dos and don’ts, organisational changes and fresh initiatives, with focus on the grassroots level, are likely to be announced.During the Martyrs’ Day rally on July 21, chief minister had hinted at a number of long-term initiatives and programmes for the party. According to party insiders, such programmes are likely to be announced during the meeting. With the crucial Assembly polls in 2021, the TMC chief is in no mood to relent any political space to the BJP in the state. After the polls, Banerjee held a series of meetings with party leaders to ascertain the weaknesses and find ways to tide over them. Secondly, the TMC is also facing challenge from BJP over the ‘cut money’ issue at the grassroots level. Also Read – Lightning kills 8, injures 16 in state”We are all waiting for her to speak at the meeting on July 29. During the Martyrs’ Day rally, she showed the road map. This meeting will focus on the concrete steps to be taken and long-term party programmes to be chalked out to combat the BJP and reach out to people. Some organisational changes are also expected along with the possibility of some leaders being pulled up,” said a senior Trinamool Congress leader, who is close to the CM.”Earlier during the meeting with state-level leaders, the CM made it clear that a turnaround is possible and Lok Sabha and Assembly polls are different. She had earlier asked MLAs and other public representatives to reach out to people. Due to absolute majority, a minor section of party leaders had been found to be detached with the masses. The CM had warned us against this,” said the senior leader. According to party sources, Banerjee wants to stress on the booth-level organisation this time. She is likely to make proper and permanent party teams at the booth levels. There are around 77,000 booths in Bengal and the party wants to make special booth committees or teams who will work round the year.Banerjee had earlier stated that she will stress on the party as much as she stresses on governance in Bengal.”Our chief minister keeps a tab on all MLAs and party leaders. She has her own network. She had earlier made it clear that her directions had to be followed by the book and negligence will not be tolerated. We expect that she will announce a statewide movement against the BJP as well as stress on booth-level party organisation,” said a TMC MLA.Party insiders also stated that this time Banerjee will be careful in choosing candidates for the Assembly polls. She is keen on planning for programmes, through which party leaders and MLAs will reach the doorstep of every voter in every booth of the state.”She is also likely to announce major programmes against the BJP in Bengal. Using the cut money issue, BJP is trying to harass our grassroots-level leaders. It’s time to hit the streets ourselves and confront them,” said another MLA.On Friday, during an administrative meeting at North 24 Parganas, Banerjee was heard asking the MLAs, “I have done a lot of development work in your area, given you a number of projects. What will you give me now?”(With inputs from Indian Express)
