Panathinaikos Whomps Munich, 87-72

first_imgATHENS – Panathinaikos advanced into the round of 16 in the European basketball league with a crunching 87-72 win over visiting Bayern Munich on Nov. 28.The Greens’ win gave the Greek team a 5-2 record in a tough group and came despite playing without center Esteban Batista, spurred by late first half run that gave them a 44-33 lead at the break.Panathinaikos stepped on the gas in the third period with a 28-6 burst that made it 59-37 and effectively ended the game right there for the worn-down German team although it clawed its way back to 70-61.AJ Slaughter was Panathinaikos’s top scorer with 17 points on the night, one more than Loukas Mavrokefalidis. The game was marred when Panathinaikos fans changed obscene slogans against those of their arch-rival Olympiakos during a moment of silence for a murdered Red Star Belgrade fan who was stabbed in Turkey last week. Red Star fans are affiliated to those of Olympiakos.TweetPinShare0 Shareslast_img
