Phil White moves home to join KLEY-KWME-KKLE

He takes over the role left open when longtime operations manager Travis Turner passed away in February.White is excited to return to the stations where his broadcast journalism career began 13 years ago.“I’ve had the chance to work with great people at great Kansas radio and television stations,” White said. “Every door to each of those opportunities was opened by the lessons I learned here after Travis gave me my first job when I was just 16. I hope taking this job lets me provide other young people that same opportunity.”Station owner and manager Gordon Johnson is glad to have White back home.“We were excited that, number one, Phil wanted to work for the stations, number two, he had experience at the stations and, number three, he wanted to live and work in Wellington,” Johnson said.It was the chance to again work in his hometown that lured White away from his most recent job as a reporter at KAKE-TV.“I had a great job at the best station in the business, so it was a tough decision to leave a team of excellent journalists who care deeply about Kansas,” White said. “I’m just as passionate about Wellington, though, and couldn’t pass up the chance to come back and provide a vital service to Sumner and Cowley Counties.”White, who is getting married in August, had begun the process of buying a home in Wellington even before Johnson asked him to join the stations.“Living here was already a done deal,” White said. “Having the chance to work here was a bonus. If you look around town, you’ll see many people my age are taking on important roles in the community. Some of them even own businesses now. Why wouldn’t I want to be part of that?”White is a 2003 graduate of Wellington High School and a 2008 graduate of Kansas State University. In addition to KLEY and KAKE, he has worked for KFRM Radio, KJCK Radio and KFDI Radio.Follow us on Twitter. Close Forgot password? Please put in your email: Send me my password!
